Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been talking about the heavy defeat to Chelsea for the first time.

Looking back at Arsenal’s heavy loss to Chelsea, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had a more peculiar role in it that most.

The midfielder should have been sent off for a goal line handball, only to see Kieran Gibbs sent off instead.

It was the first time the midfielder had handled the ball all season, while statistics show Kieran Gibbs has not done so once, with Aaron Ramsey the worst offender in this category.

England midfielder Oxlade-Chamberlain has been talking about that heavy 6-0 loss to Chelsea, and admits it is still one which is painful to think about.

He told The Guardian: “You feel completely embarrassed.” He added that the 3-0 defeat to Everton also flattened the squad, “After the Everton game, everyone was gutted.”

Yet despite the 6-0 defeat being devastating for Arsenal, in many ways there is less shame in being whacked by a rival, than knocked off their feet by a lightweight.

That’s the risk Arsenal run this weekend when they face Wigan, a team from the division below, managed by Uwe Rosler, who has never managed in the Premier League.

Strong favourites to win the tie at Wembley, Oxlade-Chamberlain went onto insist they are very wary of the side who dumped Manchester City out in the last round, and are the current FA Cup holders.

If the unthinkable happens in the semi-final, the loss of winning a trophy, the one thought which has kept the positivity at Arsenal going in recent weeks – will surely feel worse than that big loss at Stamford Bridge.
