The Arsenal man would be a fantastic addition to the Newcastle United squad.
Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez
The Magpies finally secured promotion to the Premier League with Monday’s 4-1 win over Preston North-End, and Rafa Benitez can now start to focus on planning for next season by drawing up a list of potential targets.
One area of the Newcastle team that undoubtedly needs improvement is in the middle of the park, and in particular, they need a player who is capable of linking defence with attack.
An interesting option for the Spaniard could be Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey, albeit a bold one. The Welshman’s contract is due to expire in the summer of 2018, however, so Arsene Wenger could very well choose to cash in on him in during the transfer window.
The 26-year-old’s career has been blighted by injury, most notably in 2010 when he sustained a broken leg against Stoke City.
Since that point he has showcased his tremendous ability, but not on a consistent enough basis. He has played a peripheral rile in the Gunners’ Premier League campaign this term, making just eight starts, and it is highly doubtful that he will be offered fresh terms on a new contract in the summer.
And the Toon should take advantage of the uncertainty that surrounds Ramsey’s future at the Emirates.
Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey in action
He would be the perfect addition to Newcastle’s midfield, and would slot in seamlessly next to Jonjo Shelvey in the middle of the park.
His impeccable technique when in possession and expert vision would enable the Magpies to play with more fluidity through the middle, and the Welshman could form a formidable partnership with Shelvey.
His ability to make perfectly timed runs onto the box would provide the Tyneside outfit with another attacking threat, which would, in turn, ease the goal scoring burden on Dwight Gayle.
Ramsey would still command a fairly substantial transfer fee, and convincing him to move to St James’ Park could prove difficult, but with Benitez at the helm, and Newcastle a club with big plans ahead of them, it would not be entirely outside the realms of reality.
