Reports today suggest that Arsenal have failed in a bid to sign Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Marcelo Brozovic.
With the transfer window just a matter of hours away, expect to see plenty of rumours concerning Arsenal and their search for a midfielder.
Given that Francis Coquelin started for Arsenal at West Ham on Sunday despite only just returning from a loan spell at Championship side Charlton, it’s imperative that Arsenal add a midfielder who can compete with Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini.
The likes of William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon), Grzegorz Krychowiak (Sevilla) and Jordan Veretout (Nantes) are just a handful of names linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks as manager Arsene Wenger searches for a holding midfielder.
Another name recently suggested as a target for Arsenal is Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, whose reputation is growing by the month after impressing with Dinamo Zagreb.
The 22-year-old has already made seven appearances for Croatia, and has been tracked by some of the world’s biggest clubs this season – and Arsenal have reportedly made the first move.
According to reports in Italy, Arsenal have seen a €7m (£5.5m) bid rejected, with Dinamo holding out for around €10m (£7.8m) in order to sell their prized asset.
With that in mind, Arsenal have now seen one of their Premier League rivals join the race for his signature, with Everton also pursuing a deal.
Given Arsenal’s greater financial prowess, the Gunners are still favourites, but may need to move quickly to make sure they don’t lose out on Brozovic.
