Arsenal have received encouragement over a deal for Leicester City star Youri Tielemans after speaking to his representatives.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Arsenal are focusing on signing a new midfielder this summer.
The Sun reported over the weekend that Arsenal are now confident of signing Tielemans at the end of the season.
A £40million deal was suggested with Leicester potentially ready to sell the Belgian.
Tielemans is out of contract in 2023 and Leicester may cash in before he leaves for nothing next year.
That works well for Arsenal, who fancy adding another top midfielder alongside Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey.
Arsenal decision-makers are keen to push forward with a deal for Tielemans and contact has been initiated with his representatives.
It’s thought that those talks have gone well and Arsenal have real hope of bringing Tielemans to North London.
Tielemans, 25, has played 29 Premier League games this season, notching six goals and three assists for the Foxes.
The Belgian international has been hailed as ‘fantastic’ by Leicester hero Emile Heskey and has a reputation as one of the top Premier League midfielders.
Tielemans also has one huge fan in Thierry Henry having worked together with Belgium. Henry even gave Tielemans the captain’s armband at Monaco.
Henry is of course an Arsenal legend and Tielemans may love to follow in his footsteps with a move to North London.
Starting talks now is smart from Arsenal, planning early for a summer move – and qualifying for the Champions League would only enhance Arsenal’s chances.
Arsenal have been linked with a host of midfielders such as Ruben Neves, Arthur Melo and Marcel Sabitzer.
Yet it now looks like Tielemans is the favourite to join Arsenal this summer as they look to benefit from the Leicester man’s contract situation.
