Arsenal defender William Saliba is out of the France squad and Tottenham Hotspur target Axel Disasi is replacing him.

The Gunners saw Saliba pick up a back injury against Sporting on Thursday night, which could now keep him out for a few weeks.

That means Saliba missed Sunday’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace and won’t be heading on international duty.

Saliba had been called up to the France squad for games against the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland.

Yet with the Arsenal man now injured, France have had to reshuffle their defensive plans.

Tottenham target Axel Disasi called up to replace Arsenal man Saliba

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has also pulled out of the France squad, prompting two call-ups.

Todibo was brought in to replace Fofana whilst Monaco defender Axel Disasi has come in for Arsenal star Saliba.

Disasi is a wanted man at the moment with a host of Premier League keeping tabs on his progress.

Transfer insider Dean Jones, whilst speaking to Give Me Sport in December, claimed that Tottenham, West Ham United and Arsenal were all keen on Disasi.

The Daily Mail added in January that Manchester United had opened initial talks to try and lure Disasi to Old Trafford.

A battle is expected for Disasi this summer and Tottenham would make sense as a destination.

Eric Dier needs proper competition in the middle of defence and if Davinson Sanchez leaves, Disasi could be a replacement.

The 25-year-old has impressed for Monaco this season with a surprising attacking output, notching five goals and four assists in all competitions.

Whether Disasi gets a chance to shine in Saliba’s absence remains to be seen but Tottenham will surely be keeping tabs on his progress in this international break.
