Arsenal and West Ham face new competition to the signing of New York City FC star Taty Castellanos, with Brazilian giants Palmeiras now keen on the striker.
According to Esportes, the South American champions are eager to sign a striker this month with the FIFA Club World Cup coming up in February. And Palmeiras have turned their attentions to Castellanos, as well as the likes of Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani.
As per the report, this is not the first time Palmeiras have chased the MLS star, with the Brazilian side once close to signing the Argentine last year. However, Castellanos stayed in New York and proceeded to have a historic season with the franchise.
The Pidgeon’s won their first piece of major silverware in the form of MLS Cup, whilst Castellanos won the MLS Golden Boot award, becoming the second player after David Villa to win the accolade for the club.
And as you can expect, his form has caught the eye of clubs in Europe, and mainly the Premier League. The Daily Mail reported in December that West Ham were keen on Castellanos, whilst according to the Athletic, the forward is also on Arsenal’s radar.
With both clubs ideally needing a striker this month, Castellanos could be a low-risk high-reward option for either side. However, Palmeiras offers real competition for the Premier League teams both eyeing the Argentine.
Castellanos must reject alure of Palmeiras for European move

With a £15m price tag as per the Daily Mail, the NYCFC star will cost a decent amount this January should a club attempt to sign the forward. And for Castellanos, a move back to South America with Palmeiras could be the wrong decision in his career.
Indeed, whilst Castellanos are the reigning back-to-back continental champions of South America, Europe still offers the best opportunities for the forward to make the next step in his career, especially with clubs such as Arsenal and West Ham eager to sign him.
