Arsenal had been hoping to sell defender Kieran Tierney during this transfer window.
That is according to a report from TEAMtalk.
Kieran Tierney recently joined Real Sociedad on loan, but journalist Charles Watts has told the aforementioned outlet that Arsenal had been looking to get a bit of cash for the left-back.
In the end, though, no serious bids for Tierney were made, resulting in Arsenal having to sanction a loan deal to satisfy the 26-year-old’s desire for regular game time.
Last season, he made just six starts in the Premier League, making it no surprise that he wanted to leave the Emirates.
Arsenal can still get a decent fee for Kieran Tierney
While Arsenal may have struggled to find a buyer for Tierney in this summer transfer window, it could be a different story in the next one.
Tierney is a good defender, with former Arsenal star Ashley Cole describing him as a “warrior”. After a season on the bench, that has been forgotten a bit.

If the Scotland international’s loan spell in Spain goes well, it would not be a shock to see Premier League clubs trying to buy him next year.
He obviously has experience in the division and is still just 26 years of age. It really is not impossible for Arsenal to get the £25m they paid Celtic for him back or a fee close to that.
If not, there is always the possibility of Tierney returning to the club and Mikel Arteta keeping hold of him. Oleksandr Zinchenko has had some injury problems since arriving at the Emirates, while it could be a while before Jurrien Timber is ready to be a starter for the Gunners after undergoing ACL surgery.
Tierney’s long-term future, then, still looks to be up in the air. For now, though, he will just be concentrating on Real Sociedad and getting minutes under his belt there.
