Tottenham Hotspur’s defender Toby Alderweireld’s future is currently unclear, but he shouldn’t opt to move to Arsenal.

Alderweireld’s future at Spurs is currently in doubt, as he has not yet agreed a new contract.
The Belgian international wants a considerable pay rise, and Tottenham are yet to meet his terms.
A clause in Alderweireld’s contract means that he will have a £25 million release clause instated at the end of the season, and Arsenal are willing to pay that fee.

However, even if the Gunners do come in for the centre-back, they are surely fighting a losing battle.
Alderweireld is likely to be on the radar of a number of Europe’s top clubs, and moving to Arsenal would have to be considered a step backwards right now.
Spurs finished above their north London rivals last season, and look set to do so again.

Arsenal have had far more success than Tottenham since the Premier League began, but Mauricio Pochettino has turned the Lilywhites’ fortunes around.
Staying at Spurs is surely a more enticing prospect than moving to Arsenal as things stand.
And even though the Gunners would love to take one of their rival’s main players, it seems highly unlikely that Alderweireld will be turning out for Arsene Wenger’s men any time soon.
