As Arsenal ready themselves to face Southampton on Friday, pundit Danny Murphy has advocated for Martin Odegaard to win the Premier League Player of the Season Award.

The £30 million (Sky Sports) man has been in remarkable form for the Gunners this season, registering 11 goals and seven assists so far.

With Arsenal not looking at their very best ahead of their upcoming contest against Southampton, pundit Danny Murphy has explained why Martin Odegaard merits the Player of the Season accolade.

The Norwegian skipper has been in tremendous touch for his side throughout the campaign, pulling strings from the centre of midfield and developing himself as an output machine as well.

While there were question marks over whether the 24-year-old steps up in big games enough, Odegaard has silenced all his doubters by emerging as the man to rely upon.

As Arsenal now must beat Southampton in order to go into their much-awaited contest against Manchester City, pundit Danny Murphy has said Martin Odegaard deserves the Player of the Season award if his side win the league.

“I think the biggest impact of any team is Odegaard. I think what he has done, he knits them together. There’s so many games where I’ve seen Arsenal not quite at it and he’s the one. He’s the one that takes the ball in dangerous areas and tries those passes”, he said on the FIVE YouTube channel.

“I’m going to make those passes and some of his passing, his disguised passing, his splitting the defence [passes], he’s the one that takes responsibility when others are a bit, ‘ooh!’ Now Saka could come into that conversation, I get it. But he plays wider. He has been in sensational form and so many times, I watch him and I go, ‘wow, what another performance!”

Regardless of whether pundit Danny Murphy is proven right and Martin Odegaard does win the award, the Arsenal captain’s biggest focus is likely to simply be on his side beating Southampton.
