Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have held talks with Atletico Madrid over signing Joao Felix in the January transfer window, and so have Graham Potter’s Chelsea, according to The Daily Mail.
The report has claimed that Arsenal have spoken to La Liga club Atletico over a loan deal for the Portugal international forward, who played at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Chelsea have also held talks with the former Spanish champions for the £155,000-a-week (SalarySport) star, who can operate as a winger or attacking midfielder as well.
Should Arsenal sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid?
In our opinion, if Arsenal have the chance to sign Joao Felix on a loan deal with no obligation to make it permanent at the end of the season, then they should get a deal done with Atletico Madrid.
Now, Felix is not a number 9, and Arsenal do need to prioritise signing a striker, at least for the short term, due to Gabriel Jesus’s injury.

However, the Portuguese star can operate across the attack, and he would be another good option to have for Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, especially as his side are seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table at the moment and could win the title this season.
We know that Felix is a very good attacking player, and given that he has not been able to fulfil his potential at Atletico, the 23-year-old would be determined to show what he is capable of at his next club.
Now, of course, Atletico are unlikely to be so accommodating as to simply let Felix leave on loan without any financial motive of their own.
Maybe Arsenal could offer to pay Felix’s wages in full for the duration of his loan spell as well as pay a loan fee.
