A select round-up of transfer news relating to Arsenal, including Karim Benzema, Mathieu Flamini and Yohan Cabaye.
Real Madrid’s reported interest in Luis Suarez could open the door for an Arsenal move for Karim Benzema. If the Uruguayan moves to Spain then Benzema could find himself surplus to requirements.
Arsenal still need to bring in a top quality striker and Benzema seems to fit the bill, meanwhile Newcastle state that they will not sell Yohan Cabaye unless a bid of at least £20m is offered. Arsenal tabled a bid for the French midfielder last weekend but the Magpie’s owner Mike Ashley rejected it labelling it ‘unacceptable’.
While interest for Di Maria and Benzema is still there Arsenal are poised to add some defensive and midfield cover in Mathieu Flamini, the former Gunner is reportedly ready to sign on a free, the Frenchman’s previous spell at Arsenal ended in 2008 when his contract expired and he left for AC Milan.
He will be able to provide cover in midfield and in the full back area. He covered at left back in Arsenal’s run to the Champions League final in 2006 while Ashley Cole recovered from injury.
Arsene Wenger will feel that he will be a good squad player but fans will demand more than this free transfer as long as it’s backed up by quality signings.
The BBC reported that Arsenal are willing to spend up to £100m in new signing over the next 10 days. They state a goalkeeper, defensive midfielder and a striker will be the areas that are going to be strengthened.
