Brighton & Hove Albion star Leandro Trossard is now set to complete a January transfer to Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s side will also sign the Belgium international to a long-term contract.

That is according to football.london, which reports Trossard will put pen to paper on a five-year contract with Arsenal. The Gunners wish to tie the 28-year-old down until June 2027 after agreeing on a fee with the Seagulls. His terms will also include an optional extra year.

Arsenal advanced negotiations with Brighton only after missing out on Arteta’s top target Mykhaylo Mudryk to Chelsea. The Seagulls have also accepted the Emirates Stadium club’s bid of £21m plus add-ons for Trossard. The Gunners now hope to finalise his move quickly.

Arsenal and Brighton have agreed on a fee for Leandro Trossard’s transfer

Arteta hopes to have Trossard available for his side when Arsenal host Manchester United this Sunday. The Gunners must register the 24-cap attacker’s transfer by midday on Friday for him to be eligible. Arteta also believes Trossard is an ideal fit for his preferred signings.

Trossard will join Arsenal in a January transfer after scoring seven and assisting three goals in 16 Premier League games this season. His form at the Amex Stadium has convinced the north London outfit that Trossard can come in and hit the ground running in Arteta’s team.

Arsenal have admired Trossard from afar since his time at KRC Genk, from whom Brighton signed the winger in 2019. Graham Potter paid the Belgian outfit £15m whilst in charge on the south coast. The Seagulls also gave Trossard a four-year contract to move to England.

Darren Bent has backed Leandro Trossard to succeed with the Gunners

Trossard will now be the first transfer Arsenal secure this January once Arteta and sporting director Edu finalise his move from Brighton. Edu has led their talks with the Seagulls after Chelsea sealed Mudryk’s switch and paid Shakhtar Donetsk £62m, plus £26.5m in add-ons.

Arteta is unlikely to start Trossard against Manchester United on Sunday, even if his move is registered in time. But the Belgian can offer Arsenal valuable depth behind Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. Darren Bent has also backed Trossard to succeed with the Gunners.

“I would take Trossard,” Bent told talkSPORT (17:55, 16/01). “I know it doesn’t look like it has ended well and you don’t like to see that because he has been phenomenal.

“Certainly this season. Seven goals in the Premier League [and a] hat-trick against Liverpool. Good technique, Belgium international – you would take him at Arsenal.”
