Arsenal transfer news: Sky Sports reporter lays out £90m Gunners plan

Arsenal will reportedly try and sign Moises Caicedo again in the summer transfer window having had two late bids rejected by Brighton & Hove Albion for the Ecuador international.

According to Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Gunners have big plans for the summer that could see Mikel Arteta’s side move for Caicedo and West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, with the north London side keen to overhaul their options in the position.

Sheth said when asked about Arsenal’s midfield transfer plans: “Brighton were not going to sell Moises Caicedo in this transfer window. This will then fast-forward into the summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract, and we will have another saga again for Caicedo and also Rice, who Arsenal will be in for.”

Whilst Arsenal managed to sign Jorginho on deadline day, the Italian international is very much viewed as a short-term option for the Gunners, with the 31-year-old expected to play a bit-part role in the north London side’s Premier League title push and UEFA Europa League campaign.

Moreover, the relatively cheap signing of Jorginho frees up more money for Arsenal in the transfer budget to go big in the summer, with a move for Caicedo now likely if the South American youngster continues to push for a transfer away from Brighton come the end of the season.

Arsenal have to maintain pressure in race for Caicedo

It’s very clear that Caicedo is a player Arteta wants at Arsenal to take the club to the next level, with the midfielder a clear replacement for the likes of Granit Xhaka in what would be a natural progression for the north London side, and it is key that the Gunners keep pressure on Brighton to sell the 21-year-old.

Indeed, whilst Arsenal punched well above their weight this January, there is every chance that the Seagulls will be open to a sale in the summer if the money is right, with the Mirror reporting that £90m could be the midfielder’s final asking price.
