Arsenal have registered their interest in a Bosman transfer for Mahmoud Dahoud ahead of his contract at Borussia Dortmund expiring. But AS Roma could beat the Gunners to a deal.
That is according to Calciomercato, which reports Roma have a ‘good chance’ at winning a heavily-contested fight over Dahoud. The 27-year-old has earned the attention of clubs all around Europe after BVB decided they will not be extending his contract beyond this term.
A chance to sign the German for free has enticed Stadio Olimpico leaders to explore a deal for Jose Mourinho. The Giallorossi are establishing plans to give the Portuguese a stronger side for next season. The level of competition to sign Dahoud also does not concern Roma.

AS Roma are moving to rival Arsenal for the free transfer of Mahmoud Dahoud
Dahoud was not on Roma’s radar before Borussia Dortmund announced they will not give the Syria-born star a new contract. BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl has told Bild that he informed the midfielder during February that he will be released at the end of this season.
Since then, Sky Germany has cited as many as 10 clubs with an interest. It claims Arsenal, AC Milan, Atletico Madrid, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Leicester City, Sevilla, SSC Napoli, Real Betis and Roma are looking to sign Dahoud in a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
Arsenal are also among the teams to have registered an interest in Dahoud’s transfer with the Borussia Dortmund star’s representatives. While some clubs have even already offered the two-cap Germany international a contract for a Bosman move once his BVB terms end.

Why are Borussia Dortmund releasing the midfielder when his contract expires?
Borussia Dortmund will release Dahoud once his contract expires after six seasons with the team. BVB paid Borussia Monchengladbach £10.5m to sign the midfielder in 2017. Dahoud has since played 138 times for the club across all competitions for five goals and 16 assists.
But he has only played in seven games so far this season for 288 minutes after missing five months. Dahoud required surgery on his shoulder in September after sustaining the injury in August. He has since struggled to regain a regular role in head coach Edin Terzic’s team.
So, Borussia Dortmund have opted to release Dahoud and spark interest from Arsenal and Roma in his potential free transfer. But his host of suitors will likely hope to see Terzic give the German, who ex-BVB boss Marco Rose praised, more regular games until the summer.
“He’s a great footballer with high individual quality and the willingness to work for the team and run a lot,” Rose said in 2021, via quotes by BVB Buzz. “Mo is a lot of fun to work with, plus he’s a really good guy.”
