Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been linked with Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy.
Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy will be offered to Arsenal
According to The Mirror, Arsenal will be offered the chance to sign left-back Mendy from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Last season’s La Liga and UEFA Champions League winners have told Mendy that he can leave at the end of the season.
Madrid will reportedly not offer the 27-year-old a new contract and are ready to sell him for £17.5 million.
Mendy is looking for a three-year contract, according to The Mirror.
The report has added that the left-back will be offered to Arsenal, and that the Gunners are “on alert”.
Think twice
In our view, Arsenal should not rush into signing Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
Yes, a transfer fee of £17.5 million for a 27-year-old playing for arguably the biggest club in the world is not that much.

And Mendy’s reported weekly salary of £154,000 (SalarySport) is not very high either.
However, the 27-year-old has not exactly been a massive success at the Santiago Bernabeu on an individual level, and that Madrid are willing to sell him for just £17.5 million having paid £47 million for him should raise questions.
Why would Madrid be so willing to offload a player who is 27 and, in theory at least, at the top of his game?
There is no doubt that Mendy is a good player.
Experienced agent Yvan Le Mee told France Football in June 2019 that Mendy is “the Kylian Mbappe of the left-back role” and “is good offensively and defensively, which is very rare”.
However, you have to ask whether Mendy would get into the Arsenal first team ahead of Oleksandr Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney.
The Madrid left-back has made 15 starts and one substitute appearance in La Liga this season.
Mendy has provided one assist in those games.
The left-back has also made four starts and one substitute appearance in the UEFA Champions League for Los Blancos this campaign.
