Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are about to make a move for Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, a player Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal also want, according to The Northern Echo.
Newcastle to press ahead with interest in Arsenal target Youri Tielemans
The report has claimed that Newcastle will make a formal inquiry for Tielemans, who is out of contract at Premier League rivals Leicester at the end of the season.
The Magpies want to bring in the Belgium international midfielder in the January transfer window.
The report has added that Newcastle are looking at Tielemans as a potential long-term replacement for Jonjo Shelvey.
This latest development on the situation of Tielemans could spark Arsenal into action.

The Gunners have long been linked with the 25-year-old £120,000-a-week (SalarySport) midfielder.
According to the Mirror this month, Arsenal plan to make an attempt in the January transfer window to convince Leicester to sell Tielemans in the middle of the season instead of having to wait until the summer of 2023 to snap him up on a free.
Stepping up
If Newcastle are to press ahead with their interest in Tielemans, then Arsenal need to step up and launch a bid of their own.
Or the Gunners could just miss out on Tielemans.
