Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has made it clear that he does not want to join Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the January transfer window, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs in CaughtOffSide.

The journalist has reported that Arsenal are among the clubs interested in signing Onana from Premier League rivals Everton.

The Daily Mail have claimed that the Gunners are exploring a move for the 21-year-old defensive midfielder as a potential alternative to Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo.

The Gunners have had two bids for Caicedo turned down, with Premier League rivals Brighton adamant that they will not sell him this month.

Journalist Sacha Tavolier reported last week that Arsenal were trying to sign Onana following the departure of Frank Lampard from Everton.

Sean Dyche has now been appointed the Everton manager.

Everton’s Amadou Onana does not fancy Arsenal move

Jacobs wrote on January 30: “We know midfielders are on Arsenal’s radar. Amadou Onana has indicated to all suitors that have enquired that, having only joined Everton in the summer, he would still prefer to stay and see how the club pans out under expected new manager Sean Dyche.”

Disappointing for the Gunners

In our view, Amadou Onana not willing to leave Everton for Premier League rivals Arsenal is a blow for the Gunners.

This means that Arsenal will have to look at someone else for midfield cover.

What it shows about Onana is that he is very noble and is of good character.

Everton are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, while Arsenal could win the Premier League title.

So, a move from the Toffees to the Gunners would be hugely appealing to any footballer.

That Onana wants to stay at Everton and help the team escape the dreaded drop to the Championship shows the kind of person he is.

Very admirable.
