Miguel Azeez has posted on Instagram after it was confirmed he had left Arsenal to join Championship side Wigan Athletic on loan this month – with Lucas Torreira among those to respond, wishing his old Arsenal teammate luck.
Azeez, 20, has struggled of late. Since making his debut for Arsenal, he has gone out on loan to Portsmouth and then Spanish side UD Ibiza. The latter of which was a season-long loan – but was cut short this month after just 10 games.
Earlier this week, Sun transfer expert Alan Nixon reported that Azeez was set to join Kolo Toure’s Wigan side. Nixon reported a deal would be a permanent move. But, both clubs say Azeez is joining Wigan on loan until the summer.
Azeez, an England youth international, has posted on Instagram after it was confirmed he would be joining Toure’s side. There is plenty of work to do for Azeez and Wigan, who currently sit at the bottom of the Championship table.
Torreira responds as Azeez leaves Arsenal to join Toure’s Wigan on loan
Azeez needs a platform where he can shine. Will he get that at Wigan? Time will tell. Azeez has enormous potential, enough to convince Mikel Arteta to give him a debut. But his career has dwindled since making that first-team outing.
A move to Wigan is massive for Azeez. The highest level he will get to play at, potentially week in, week out. He needs to make a real case for himself. But there is no better place. Under an Arsenal legend in Toure, alongside Kevin Betsy.
The latter has joined Wigan as a coach after working with Azeez as manager of Arsenal’s Under-23 side. Torreira was among those to respond to Azeez on his Instagram page, posting “good luck bro”. Other Arsenal stars responded.
