Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, but it seems that he could end up at Barcelona.
Arsenal target Ilkay Gundogan stance on Barcelona transfer
According to a report in Spanish publication SPORT in March, Arsenal are trying to sign Gundogan on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.
The report claimed interest in the German star from Barcelona as well.
And now 90min are reporting that Gundogan is edging closer to a move to Spanish and European giants Barcelona on a free transfer.
The 32-year-old is out of contract at defending Premier League champions City at the end of the season.
The report has claimed that Barcelona have offered Gundogan a two-year deal with an option for a further year, and that “the player’s family are keen to live in Spain”.
Transfer blow for Arsenal
In our view, Arsenal are unlikely to be able to sign Ilkay Gundogan in the summer transfer window.
We do not think that the midfielder will leave Manchester City at the end of the season and move to another Premier League club, especially one who could end up winning the title this season.
Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs in the world who are set to win La Liga this seaosn.
We think that a move to Camp Nou or signing a new contract at City is more likely for Gundogan, who has been described as an “intelligent” player by Pep Guardiola.
