Arsenal are showing an interest in AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori as they consider adding another centre back.
Rob Holding has tried to fill in for the injured William Saliba but it’s clear that he isn’t quite on the same level.
Jakub Kiwior came in as cover for Gabriel Magalhaes at left-sided centre back but another option is needed on the right.
90Min now claim that Arsenal are showing an interest in signing AC Milan ace Tomori.
It’s stated that the Gunners were ‘paying close attention’ to Tomori during Saturday’s game between Roma and Milan.
Tomori fell behind to a goal from ex-Chelsea teammate Tammy Abraham before a dramatic late Milan leveller.
Arsenal were watching on with real interest and may now make a push to bring Tomori back to England this summer.
It’s hard to see Fikayo Tomori joining Arsenal
Tomori – sold by Chelsea for £25million – is certainly a quality defender.
Hailed as ‘faultless’ by Rio Ferdinand after holding Spurs and Harry Kane to a 0-0 draw in March, Tomori shackled the Tottenham superstar.
The 25-year-old has really developed his defensive game since leaving Chelsea for Milan and it’s strange that he isn’t a bigger part of the England setup.
You have to imagine that, if Arsenal were turning to Tomori in any Saliba absence, they would be in a much better position.
Yet it’s hard to imagine Tomori taking on that kind of role.
If the former Chelsea man is going to return to the Premier League, he would surely expect a starring role rather than just competing with Saliba at Arsenal.
Maybe this is the next step Arsenal need to take, adding top-quality depth to Mikel Arteta’s squad to try and take down Manchester City.
That isn’t easy to acquire though and a deal for Tomori would seem tricky this summer.
