Arsenal are expecting to push through a move for Chelsea ace Kai Havertz once the international break is over.

Kai Havertz has a five-year deal in place with Arsenal as he closes in on a £65million move away from Chelsea.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that the expectation is that an agreement will be in place this week.

Havertz is currently on international duty with Germany and he is in line to face Colombia in a friendly this evening.

Once tonight’s game is out of the way, Havertz will sort out his future and Arsenal are hoping to make real progress in the next few days.

Havertz is understood to have already agreed a five-year deal with Arsenal, so personal terms won’t be a problem.

Romano adds that the fee for Havertz is expected to be around £65million – £7million less than the £72million fee Chelsea paid to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020.

Havertz only has two years left on his Chelsea contract and with no new deal in sight, a sale looks to be on the cards.

Kai Havertz has versatility Mikel Arteta will love

Not everybody will love this move for Arsenal.

We have already seen Piers Morgan question just why on earth Mikel Arteta wants to bring Havertz to North London.

It’s fair to say that Havertz hasn’t quite lived up to expectations at Chelsea – even having scored a Champions League-winning goal against Manchester City in 2021.

The German hasn’t really found a natural position at Chelsea, highlighting that the ‘raumdeuter’ role hasn’t really made its way over from Germany just yet.

Arteta may love the versatility Havertz can provide though.

Havertz – hailed as an ‘exceptional’ talent by Jamie Redknapp – could play the false nine role that Gabriel Jesus plays in this Arsenal team, showing the ability to drop deep or drift wide.

The 24-year-old also played as a right-sided winger for Leverkusen, cutting in on his left side – which could offer a similar threat to Bukayo Saka.

Havertz was also used as a midfielder at Leverkusen, presenting the opportunity for Arsenal to use him on the left of their midfield three.

That ability to move Havertz around will be very attractive to Arteta and it looks like a deal is now going closer.
