Marco Asensio’s agent has reportedly met with English clubs amid reports that Arsenal are interested in signing the Real Madrid winger, who is set to become a free agent this summer.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the 26-year-old’s representation has been in contact with Premier League sides over a potential transfer, with Asensio expected to leave Madrid at the end of this season with the playmaker’s contract due to expire.
Romano said on Asensio’s future: “Talks continue between Real Madrid and Marco Asensio. There’s no final decision yet, despite some speculation to the contrary. His agent already spoke with English clubs last summer, but it’s Asensio who has to decide: new deal or leave on a free.”
Whilst these talks did take place last year, there’s every chance these discussions were related to a deal this summer, a window in which Arsenal seem interested in signing Asensio, who according to Sport are keen to make a move for the Madrid winger in the coming weeks.

Despite being one of Madrid’s well-known players in the current squad, Asensio’s career in recent years has somewhat stalled, with Carlo Ancelotti viewing the former boy-wonder as nothing more than a squad player and part of Los Blancos’ impressive rotational options.
Indeed, whilst Asensio could sign a new contract with Madrid, all signs seem to point towards the winger leaving the Spanish capital at the end of this season, and for Arsenal, the Gunners could now miss out on signing the forward given this latest revelation regarding his agent.
Asensio could sign for English rivals despite Arsenal interest

Arsenal will be one of the most appealing clubs for many top players to join this summer, yet in the case of Asensio, the Spanish international could now opt to join a rival team in the Premier League given how more valued the 26-year-old could be an another side.
As we know, Asensio thrives when he is the star of the show for a club, and whilst Arsenal could give this role to the attacker in the summer, Mikel Arteta seemingly has plans in place for Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka to take these roles, as well as other players such as Martin Odegaard and potentially Fabio Vieira.
