Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram is reportedly convinced that he will secure a January transfer in the final week of the winter window, with Arsenal one of the clubs linked with the forward.

According to Telefoot, the 2022 FIFA World Cup finalist is now ‘confident’ he can leave the Bundesliga side in the final week of the January window, with Thuram’s contract with Gladbach due to expire at the end of this season, which was when the attacker wanted to leave Germany.

However, it now appears that the 25-year-old is keen on leaving Gladbach this month, with MilanLive reporting that Arsenal are one of many clubs interested in signing Thuram, alongside the likes of AC Milan, Newcastle United and French giants PSG.

With Arsenal recently signing Leandro Trossard from Brighton & Hove Albion, though, there’s a strong chance that the Gunners won’t move in for Thuram given that they have filled their attacking quota for the January transfer window and with Gabriel Jesus set to return within the next five weeks.

Indeed, although Thuram would have been an exceptional signing for Arsenal, the Gunners’ move for Trossard and the return of Emile Smith Rowe to full fitness has left the need for an attacker obsolete, with a midfielder now what Mikel Arteta is looking to bring in before the closure of the window.

A player with 13 goals and four assists already this season would, in most years, make them one of the most in-demand names in the January window. However, in the case of Thuram, the French forward is struggling to find a suitor this month, with the market this year not too kind to attackers.

With Arsenal already sorted for a new frontman in Trossard and other top sides doing their business early, there is every chance that Thuram could struggle to win a January transfer this month, with time quickly running out for the Gladbach superstar.
