According to a report by GOAL, Arsenal have scouted Liverpool-linked midfielder, Florentino Luis, who is currently playing for Benfica.

It was claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s side had made contacts to complete the addition of the Portuguese talent. At the time, it seemed like he fit the profile of a Reds signing, considering he is a highly-rated, yet relatively unknown commodity in Europe.

However, it seems as if Arsenal have also kept tabs on Florentino Luis and are aiming to snatch him away from Liverpool, who have been linked with his signature for a couple of months now.

Ultimately, this move could prove to be a masterstroke from Mikel Arteta’s side, considering their failure to wrap up a deal for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo in the January transfer window for a player who was praised by agent Bruno Carvalho and Benfica coach Joao Tralhao a couple of months ago.

But now, GOAL have reported that Arsenal, alongside Liverpool have scouted Florentino Luis, alongside a host of other Premier League teams who have made ‘checks’ for the talented defensive midfielder.

Tralhao, who referred to the 23-year-old as ‘amazing’ made the bold claim that he is ready to start for a number of Europe’s biggest clubs, saying, “He has the talent and quality to play in elite teams. Remember when Real Madrid had the Galacticos? They needed someone to balance the team, and [Claude] Makelele was so important.”

He continued to gush over Arsenal and Liverpool-linked Florentino Luis by adding, “More recently, Casemiro did that job, allowing [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Luka] Modric and [Karim] Benzema to attack. Florentino has those capabilities. He’s having an amazing season under Roger Schmidt. He can play anywhere, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, anywhere. He would have no problem adapting.”

Well, Arsenal could sign a potential superstar in Luis, provided they beat Liverpool in their quest to sign him, whether that is in the summer of 2023 or further on.
