Arsenal have reportedly added Brighton & Hove Albion superstar Kaoru Mitoma to their January transfer list as Mikel Arteta looks to sign an attacker this month.

90min claim that the Japanese international is on the Gunners’ radar as the north London side continue their search to sign a winger in the January market, with Arsenal this weekend being beaten by Chelsea to Mykhailo Mudryk at the eleventh hour.

Mitoma has only been a Brighton player for one season, however, the left-sided winger has been one of the breakout players in the Premier League this campaign, with the attacker being rightly praised for his incredible worth ethic and impressive performances under Roberto De Zerbi.

Likened to Tottenham superstar Heung-min Son by BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks, Mitoma has bagged four goals and two assists in all competitions this season, two strikes actually coming against Arsenal in both the 3-1 League Cup win at the Emirates Stadium and the 4-2 Premier League loss on New Year’s Eve.

Indeed, with Mitoma already causing Arteta some embarrassment this season, mainly in the League Cup, it makes sense why the Gunners are now interested in a move to sign the Japanese international as an alternative to Mudryk.

However, the north London side could struggle massively this January to reach a deal to sign Mitoma given how good the winger has been for Brighton this campaign and how important the 25-year-old attacker could be for De Zerbi in the Seagulls future plans.

After missing out on Mudryk, Arsenal need a winger in this market and they need one fast. And whilst Mitoma would be an obvious pick for many supporters, Brighton’s demands will surely make a transfer impossible for the north London side to pull off this January.

After all, Brighton are in a position where they don’t need to sell this January, and whilst Mitoma would fetch an incredible profit given how little the Seagulls signed him for in 2021, their demands will eclipse anything Arsenal will be willing to offer for the Japanese international.
