Arsenal are reportedly confident in signing Celta Vigo wonderkid Gabri Veiga despite growing interest from the likes of FC Barcelona and Newcastle United.

According to Faro de Vigo, the attacking midfielder is being heavily watched by the Gunners ahead of the summer transfer window, with the 20-year-old enjoying a breakout season in La Liga with Vigo with the youngster bagging eight goals and three assists in the Spanish top-flight.

As per the report, though, Arsenal face some strong competition for Veiga’s signature, with Barcelona and Newcastle both interested in the Spanish youth international, whose ‘outstanding’ form is bound to attract more suitors from across La Liga and Europe.

With a release clause of €40m (£35m), though, the Premier League is bound to be a leading division for the Galicia-born talent, and Arsenal could be willing to match this fee to guarantee Veiga’s signature ahead of the likes of Barcelona and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle.

Indeed, whilst Arsenal are looking to sign a midfielder in the summer, an attacking-minded one would be the last thing supporters and pundits would have predicted from Mikel Arteta, with a deep option to replace the likes of Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey in the long-term more suited.

However, given how exciting a talent Veiga is, it wouldn’t be surprising if Arsenal made an offer to sign the attacking midfielder in the summer, with Arteta having the capacity and the coaching skills to develop the youngster into a player who could suit the north London side’s system.

Veiga might not have an immediate role in Arsenal’s squad for the long-term, but there’s no denying that the Spaniard would be an exciting risk for the club to take in the years to come, especially with how good the Gunners have been in the last two seasons at developing young players.

Although a move to Barcelona or Newcastle could appeal to Veiga, Arsenal’s status has risen so highly under Arteta that the midfielder could be willing to wait for the north London side to come in with an offer this summer, and a deal could be quite the exciting one for all parties involved.
