Borussia Dortmund are reportedly yet to match Real Valladolid’s asking price to sign Ivan Fresneda, a player who Arsenal are also in talks with in what could be a major boost for the north London side.
According to journalist Matteo Moretto, the Bundesliga giants are working on a deal to sign the Spanish wonderkid, however, Dortmund are yet to meet Valladolid’s demands for Fresneda despite the player preferring a move to the German side this January.

Labelled as a ‘marvellous talent’ by Valladolid manager Pacheta, Fresneda has exploded onto the scene this season in La Liga at just 18-years-old, with the right-back making 12 appearances in all competitions and featuring in the Blanquivioletas’ last five top-flight matches.
As a result, some of Europe’s biggest clubs are now scrambling to sign Fresneda, with Arsenal and Dortmund the final two sides left in the battle to land the Madrid-born talent. However, whilst the north London side are willing to meet Valladolid’s demands, the player himself wants a move to Germany.
Indeed, Dortmund are arguably the best club in Europe for a young player to develop at given the Bundesliga side’s incredible track record, yet with the German club not willing to match Valladolid’s demands for Fresneda, Arsenal could soon be in the clear to sign the defender.
Fresneda could thrive long-term at Arsenal if Gunners confirm signing
Fresneda’s reasoning for wanting to join Dortmund makes plenty of sense on paper. However, given just how much faith Mikel Arteta has given youth players at Arsenal in his three years in charge, the defender will be hard to find a better second option than the north London side.
Although Arsenal’s current right-back options of Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu will make it difficult for Fresneda to break through, the defender has the gift of time on his hands, with the teenager more than suited to one day start for the Gunners in the future if his development continues at its current pace.
