Manchester City could move to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if they fail in pursuit of Tottenham striker Harry Kane, with Arsenal prepared to let him leave, according to ESPN.

Arsenal enter the final week of the window still needing to offload several players Mikel Arteta considers surplus to requirements. However, interest has proved thin for some, while the fees being requested has also seen some potential transfers fall through.

The Gunners would like to offload Alexandre Lacazette with the Frenchman in the last 10-months of his contract. But no club has shown serious interest in signing their former club-record £46.5m signing. So, as Arteta needs sales to raise funds, may sell Aubameyang.

Arsenal are prepared to sacrifice their most experienced goal threat, as he is 32 and on a £250,000-per-week contract. The Gabon striker also produced his worst complete Premier League campaign since moving to the Emirates Stadium last season.

But Arsenal may still ask for £25m to sell Aubameyang given his track record, amid possible interest from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s outfit are still intent on signing Kane from Tottenham, yet could make a last-ditch move across north London.

Gabriel Jesus is currently the only senior striker at the Etihad Stadium after Sergio Aguero left at the end of his contract in June and joined Barcelona. Aubameyang may now replace the Argentine, after scoring 64 goals in 115 Premier League games since January 2018.

The Gunners captain scored 22 goals in each of his first two complete terms at the Emirates Stadium. However, he only managed to find the back of the net 10 times in 29 appearances last season as he battled injuries and malaria, which saw him lose 4kg in weight.

Should Manchester City sign Arsenal captain Aubameyang if Kane doesn’t move?

Aubameyang can offer Manchester City an almost guaranteed goal threat if they raid Arsenal and move on from Tottenham’s Kane. The Gabon international had a wealth of issues count against him last season, while also often playing on the left-wing.

However, while Arsenal are open to selling Aubameyang, the possible Manchester City target does not want to leave north London. The Express report the former Borussia Dortmund frontman wants to stay and become a legend at the Emirates Stadium.

He is also committed to seeing out the final two years of the lucrative contract he signed last September. So, Jesus could be Guardiola’s only option to lead his defending Premier League champions if Kane proves unobtainable.
