Flamengo are considering making David Luiz an offer to join the Brazilian side, per Globo, with the defender still yet to find a club since leaving Arsenal, despite widespread interest.

The Maracana outfit are holding internal discussions to debate the merits of taking Luiz to Rio. Flamengo have convened to discuss their potential 2022 transfer activity, but are likely to plan with enough spare to bring the centre-back in for the final half of the current term.

Vice-President Marcos Braz has already met with Luiz’s agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, to set out their budget. The Flamengo chief also sought to sound out what wage the 34-year-old would demand, after earning £100k-a-week at Arsenal.

Flamengo got the feeling from discussions with Bertolucci that they would not be able to afford former Arsenal defender Luiz. Yet Bertolucci is in favour of Luiz moving to Rio, as it would help improve his image in the country.

Especially with a World Cup on the horizon and Luiz eying a place in the Brazil squad. Plus, with major European markets now closed, Flamengo feel confident they can sign the 57-cap enforcer without breaking their budget.

The Scarlet-Black have until September 17 to agree terms with the former Benfica, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain defender. Luiz has remained on the market since leaving Arsenal at the end of his contract in June. He spent two-years in north London, playing 73 games.

Flamengo to end Luiz exile after Arsenal release?

Luiz has had plenty of interest since Arsenal released the potential last-ditch Flamengo arrival. Le10 Sport report Marseille manager Jorge Sampaoli and President Pablo Longoria pushed all summer to take him to southern France.

OM even made a late-window approach to revive their pursuit before the Ligue 1 market slammed shut last week. Goal also noted Benfica were in talks with the 6 ft 2 centre-half over a return to Lisbon last month.

While reports linked Salernitana with a move, but Sporting Director Angelo Fabiani denied their interest. “Our transfer window is closed with the signing of Franck Ribery,” he stated, via Football-Italia.
