Myles Lewis-Skelly has been spotted in Arsenal’s first-team training once again with so many players away at the World Cup in Qatar.

Premier League action may be on hiatus whilst the World Cup takes centre stage but Mikel Arteta is still training and preparing.

Arsenal’s return to league action against West Ham United on Boxing Day will come around quicker than you realise and he wants to get his players ready.

Many of them are at the World Cup though and that means youngsters stepping up into first-team training.

Myles Lewis-Skelly has been spotted in Arsenal’s first-team training

Aaron Ramsdale, Matt Turner, Takehiro Tomiyasu, William Saliba, Ben White, Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka are all away in Qatar.

That’s 11 players unavailable for training right now and Arteta has called up youngsters to fill the gaps.

Photos from Monday’s session at London Colney have emerged and youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly was involved.

Lewis-Skelly is just 16 but already appears to have caught the eye of Mikel Arteta and co.

The defensive midfielder has played five games in the Under-18 Premier League this season, bagging two goals and one assist.

Lewis-Skelly has also managed two appearances in the EFL Trophy, totalling 39 minutes.

Arteta needed midfielders in training with Partey and Xhaka away at the World Cup, so this was a great chance for Lewis-Skelly to step up.

Arsenal’s teenagers will have gained real confidence earlier this season when Arteta decided to give Ethan Nwaneri his first-team debut at just 15.

What’s interesting is that Lewis-Skelly is actually held in similar regard to Nwaneri.

An unnamed Arsenal youth coach told VAVEL in September that both Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri are the ‘outstanding’ talents in Arsenal’s ranks.

That coach put Lewis-Skelly on the same level as Nwaneri even if the latter now has more hype after that Premier League debut.

With Nwaneri already making his debut and Lewis-Skelly now in first-team training, maybe another Arsenal teenager is set for senior action in the near future.
