Spurs and the Gunners have both been linked with the Roma and France midfielder.

Although the transfer window is well and firmly shut until the summer now, speculation regarding prospective targets will always continue to emerge, and one rumour doing the rounds involves both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
The player in question is Steven Nzonzi, who some Premier League fans will remember from his time at Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, but since leaving England his career has enjoyed a stratospheric rise, impressing at Sevilla and now at Roma, not to mention winning the World Cup with France last summer.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercatonews, Spurs are keeping an eye on the midfielder, with prior reports last summer in the likes of Football London saying they were “waiting” to make their move, and also suggesting he was keen on a return to the Premier League.
However, Arsenal may have just powered to the front of the queue as, according to The Mirror, the Gunners have offered the job of technical director to Roma’s Monchi – and fully expect him to take it.

Why would this impact on Tottenham’s Nzonzi hopes? Because the Frenchman was signed by Monchi when he was at Sevilla, and after the Brazilian had gone to Roma, he eventually brought the player to the Stadio Olimpico, which suggests a good working relationship between the two.
Add to that the fact that Nzonzi has previously played for Unai Emery at Sevilla, doing very well under him, and the Spaniard now being at Arsenal, and it looks as though any hopes Spurs may have had of moving for the 30-year-old may have diminished greatly and could lose him to their bitter rivals.
