Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are all reportedly targeting a move to sign Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita with his Anfield contract due to expire next June – a player that Paul Merson branded “not good enough” for Liverpool.

Keita, 27, has struggled at Liverpool ever since his move from Leipzig in 2018. In over four years, the 50-time Guinea ace has only managed 117 games for the Reds. This season, he has managed just one outing – the Community Shield.

90Min claim that the aforementioned Premier League trio are keeping tabs on Keita. Liverpool are in talks over a new deal for Keita, but no agreement has been made. Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea are keen to get him on a free.

However, other clubs from France, Italy, Germany and Spain are also keen on £130k a week Keita. However, Arsenal legend Merson does not believe he is good enough for Liverpool – writing back in June in his SportsKeeda column.

Under the title “not good enough”, Merson said: “Keita’s signing didn’t do much for me. Was shocked when he came on in the Champions League final. Liverpool needed a goal. He’s scored one goal in about a million games.”

Arsenal and Tottenham target Keita not good enough for Liverpool

When he joined Liverpool, many were excited at the prospect of the goalscoring midfielder. He had starred in German football, regularly scoring impressive goals from outside the area. But that has not happened during his Liverpool spell.

Not regularly, anyway. Injury and a lack of momentum in the starting XI has limited his progress. Ultimately, if Liverpool hand him a new deal, it would only continue to disrupt the development of talents Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott.

If he is not good enough for Liverpool, then Arsenal, Spurs and Chelsea realistically need to look elsewhere. They need to be looking at players that are already good enough for Liverpool – not players that have failed on Merseyside.
