Arsenal midfielder Charlie Patino enjoyed a dream debut by scoring against Sunderland – and some may forget his signing came at Tottenham’s expense.

Patino makes his mark for Arsenal

Arsenal coasted to a 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Sunderland on Tuesday night, with the moment of the night coming from Patino.

Mikel Arteta decided to bring on 18-year-old midfielder Patino for his senior debut – and he immediately made an impact.

Patino scored the fifth goal, firing home from a Nicolas Pepe pass to mark his dream debut with a goal.

Arsenal fans are raving about Patino and feel he has a huge future ahead of him – a future that could have been with Tottenham.

Tottenham missed out on Patino deal

Back in 2015, Patino was a wanted man after emerging with Luton Town.

The Guardian reported that Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City all wanted to sign Patino.

Instead, Patino chose to make the move to Arsenal because of its proximity to his home in St Albans.

Arsenal paid just £10,000 to sign Patino, and how Tottenham wish they had won that race now.

Patino will instead represent the red side of North London, and last night’s goal will feel like that transfer win over six years ago has paid off.

That fee looks like money well spent for Arsenal, and they will hope to see Patino shine against Tottenham in the Premier League for years to come.
