Arsenal are now interested in signing Ajax winger Antony – just months after Tottenham Hotspur considered him instead of Dejan Kulusevski.

That’s according to a report from Calciomercato, who claim that Arsenal have joined the race to sign Antony this summer.

The queue for Antony is pretty daunting; Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Arsenal would certainly need Champions League football to stand a chance of winning this race. Fortunately, that looks possible under Mikel Arteta.

It’s stated that Antony will cost at least €45million (£38million) with Ajax seeking big cash in order to sell the Brazilian star.

Where would Antony fit in at Arsenal?

Antony is some talent. 12 goals and 10 assists in 33 games this season tell the story of a dangerous winger who is ready for a big step forward.

Arsenal would represent that, and Goal reported in 2019 that the Gunners had made an enquiry to sign Antony from Sao Paulo.

Edu seemingly rates his fellow Brazilian highly, but would a move to Arsenal really makes sense this summer?

Arsenal already have a left-footed winger playing on their right flank with Bukayo Saka shining under Mikel Arteta.

Saka isn’t going to be displaced any time soon, as Nicolas Pepe has found, whilst there is little room on the left with Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe fighting it out.

As impressive as Antony is, it’s just hard to justify that kind of fee for a player who may not be an instant starter.

Tottenham considered Antony before Kulusevski

An interesting note in the report is that Tottenham actually explored a move to sign Antony during the January window.

Keen to sign a winger, Tottenham missed out on Luis Diaz to Liverpool and allegedly looked into signing Antony.

In the end, Fabio Paratici struck a deal to sign Dejan Kulusevski from Juventus – a deal that has certainly paid dividends.

Tottenham are unlikely to be back in the race for Antony as a result, but he could still land a big move to England this summer.
