Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu enjoyed another fine performance on Sunday afternoon, drawing praise from Gary Neville.

The Gunners beat North London rivals 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium having raced into a 3-0 lead in the first half.

Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka were the goal heroes for Arsenal, but there were many other fine performances.

Tomiyasu shines again for Arsenal

Arsenal snapped up defender Takehiro Tomiyasu on deadline day, luring him to North London from Bologna.

Tottenham had looked at Tomiyasu themselves, but decided to sign Emerson Royal from Barcelona instead.

Arsenal will be very glad Tottenham made that decision.

Tomiyasu has conceded just one goal in an Arsenal shirt, and he was superb against Tottenham.

Son Heung-min found it difficult to get much out of Tomiyasu, who has not only been solid defensively but also attempted to get forward.

Neville praises Tomiyasu

At 3-1 on Sunday, Tottenham had one last great chance. Lucas Moura hit a deflected shot that looked to be looping over Aaron Ramsdale.

Ramsdale clawed the ball on to the bar, with Tomiyasu quick to get in and clear the ball away.

Gary Neville loved that, telling Sky Sports (26/09, 6:20pm) that he had to give a special mention to the Japanese ace.

Neville noticed that Tomiyasu was twice very quick to react to a loose ball and clear the danger for Arsenal, believing that this is a very valuable trait.

“Special mention to the right back again, Tomiyasu, for following in,” said Neville. “That’s twice he’s done that. The follow-up could have cost them,” he added.
