Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed on his website that Arsenal plan to complete the signing of Nuno Tavares from Benfica this week.
What’s the story?
Arsenal have been linked with Benfica left-back Tavares.
The North London club are looking for a back-up to Kieran Tierney at left-back.
The Gunners have identified the 21-year-old as a transfer target this summer, according to The Athletic.
The Athletic has added that Arsenal could secure the services of the Portuguese youngster for less than €10 million (£8.59 million).
What Gianluca Di Marzio says
Well-known and well-respected journalist Di Marzio is claiming on his website that a deal to sign Tavares could be completed this week.
The Italian journalist has reported on his website that Arsenal plan to close the ‘operation’ this week.

Smart signing for Arsenal
If Tavares joins Arsenal this week, then he will become the first signing of the summer transfer window for the Gunners.
Tierney is one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old Scotland international will be the number one player in his position at Arsenal next season and beyond.

That is not going to change.
There is no point in Arsenal spending a lot of money to find cover for Tierney at left-back.
Tavares is young and is not going to cost much.
The 21-year-old would be a very smart signing for the Gunners, who will be aiming to finish in the Premier League top four next season.
