Former Ajax manager Frank de Boer believes Eredivisie star Mohammed Kudus can be a ‘good acquisition’ for Arsenal as the Premier League leaders scout the £40 million-rated Ghana international.

The prospect of a Kudus, a Gabri Veiga or another exciting young attacker arriving at the Emirates Stadium this summer will serve to only strike fear into the heart of top-flight defences.

Arsenal may be pipped at the post by Manchester City. But Tuesday’s thrashing of Chelsea – admittedly this Chelsea – was a brutal reminder of the style and swagger Mikel Arteta’s side possess when at their free-flowing best.

Arsenal spent the January window adding some much-needed strength in depth to Arteta’s squad; Leandro Trossard and Jakub Kiwior both impressing in the most one-sided London derby wins. The summer could be more of the same. 90Min reporting that Arsenal are scouting the £40 million-rated Kudus in action at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Arsenal are watching Ajax ace Mohammed Kudus

“(Kudus is a) top player,” says De Boer, who won three Eredivisie titles in charge of Ajax, adding that the former Nordsjaelland ace would be a ‘good acquisition’.

“You play 38 games in the Premier League. You enter the Champions League and you have two cup competitions. Then, you really need all the players.

“Arsenal has had very few injuries this season. They almost always played with the same line-up. You could fill (the team sheet) in blindly. But that is not the case every season. If a few players drop out, then adequate replacements are needed if you want to compete at the top.”

Kudus, scorer of 18 goals in 25 starts in all competitions this season, would allow Arteta to rest some of his star players on occasions and be confident that of bringing in similar quality into the starting XI.

Versatile and tactically intelligent, Kudus can thrive both as an attacking midfielder and as a centre-forward.
