Arsenal have posted an encouraging update about Gabriel Martinelli on their official website.
The 19-year-old sensation hasn’t kicked a ball for the Gunners since way back in March due to an injury picked up just before Project Restart.
With Arsenal only managing 10 Premier League goals from as many games this season, it’s clear that head coach Mikel Arteta could use someone like the Brazilian, who scored a wonderful solo goal away to Chelsea in January.
But it looks like there’s been a positive update on this front.
Arsenal have revealed on their official website that they expect the teenager – a £6 million signing in 2018 – to be back playing for Steve Bould’s Under-23 side by the end of December.
A brief statement read: “Sustained injury during training on June 21. Gabi is now integrating into squad sessions. Aiming to participate in an under-23s match before the end of December.”
What a massive boost it could be for Arsenal if he’s available for the second half of the season.
This is a player who Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp labelled a ‘talent of the century’ last year and that right there illustrates his potential.
At the same time, it’s perhaps indicative of the North Londoners’ wider problems if a 19-year-old is seen as somebody who can turn their season around.
That burden shouldn’t be on him at his age, but that’s where we are right now.
