Arsenal defender Calum Chambers performed well against Newcastle at the weekend.
Arsenal defender Calum Chambers was picked again for the side at the weekend and did not let his team down.
The 20-year-old had played in the previous Premier League game at home to West Ham, but was an unused substitute against Monaco in the Champions League.
Chambers was solid for the Gunners in the 2-1 win away to Newcastle United, and his tackling was particularly notable.
His eight tackles won was the highest tally in the Premier League in any match over the weekend, three more than his nearest challenger.
| Team | Won Tackles | Interceptions Won | Aerial Duels Won | Accurate Cross | Shots Blocked | Passing Accuracy | Touches | Poss Lost All | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Calum Chambers | Arsenal | 8 | 4 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 76% | 93 | 21 | 90 |
| Francis Coquelin | Arsenal | 5 | 4 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 84% | 79 | 12 | 90 |
| Cesc Fàbregas | Chelsea | 5 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 0 | 85% | 118 | 21 | 90 |
| Darron Gibson | Everton | 5 | 4 | 4 | 0 | 2 | 66% | 79 | 23 | 90 |
| Mauricio Isla | QPR | 5 | 3 | 0 | 3 | 0 | 82% | 88 | 19 | 90 |
Impressively from an Arsenal perspective, one of the two players to record the second highest number of tackles was Chambers’ teammate, Francis Coquelin.
After featuring heavily earlier in the season, Chambers has had a reduced role in recent weeks. Gabriel Paulista’s signing has seen the need for him to fill in at centre-back disappear, while Hector Bellerin has moved ahead of him as Arsene Wenger’s preferred right-back with Mathieu Debuchy out injured.
