Arsenal are believed to be keen on signing Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri – but he endured a rather embarrassing night on Tuesday.

The Gunners need to be looking for another striker. Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah both look set to leave in 2022, so another forward has to be targeted.

La Colina de Nervion reported last week that Arsenal now want to sign En-Nesyri – but he may he hoping they weren’t watching last night.

En-Nesyri’s dismal night

The Moroccan missed a good chance with a header early on. En-Nesyri appeared to mistime his jump and couldn’t connect properly to score.

Things then turned frankly silly from the striker.

Sevilla were trailing 1-0 with En-Nesyri went flying in on Rasmus Nissen Kristensen. Quite frankly, he was lucky to get away with a booking.

En-Nesyri did then win a penalty for Sevilla, which Ivan Rakitic converted.

En-Nesyri tried his luck again in the second half. Down he went attempted to convince the Belarussian referee to give a fifth penalty of the game.

This time, En-Nesyri was booked for diving and given his marching orders in an embarrassing dismissal.

Arsenal shouldn’t be put off En-Nesyri

Yes, this was a bad night for En-Nesyri… a really bad night.

The performance may form a part of Edu’s analysis on En-Nesyri, but the bigger picture is more encouraging.

En-Nesyri hit 18 goals last season, offering more of an aerial threat than many other Arsenal players.

People may also say they don’t like to see simulation in the game, but there is a flip side to that.

That edge is something that Arsenal have been accused of lacking. Dark arts, gamesmanship, whatever you want to call it.

Having a player like En-Nesyri who can score as well as buy free kicks and penalties may not be the worst idea for Arsenal – even after last night’s disaster.
