Sassuolo superstar and rumoured Arsenal target Gianluca Scamacca is set to sign a new contract with the Serie A side despite strong interest from numerous clubs.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the 23-year-old attacker is set to remain with the Italian club and sign a new deal until 2026, with Scamacca being one of the breakout stars of the season and a talent many top sides around Europe are interested in, namely Arsenal.

As per the report, AC and Inter Milan are also chasing Scamacca, who is valued at €40m (£34m), as are Borussia Dortmund, who are looking to sign a replacement for Erling Haaland this summer with the striker set to depart the Bundesliga side.

And as for Arsenal, the Gunners have made a new striker their top priority for the upcoming transfer window, with Scamacca alone scoring over three times as many goals as Alexandre Lacazette in the league, who has led the line for Mikel Arteta’s side for all of 2022.

Indeed, with Scamacca now set to stay with the 10th-place Serie A side this summer, the striker signing a new contract is a huge blow for Arsenal, as it means it is one less name on their transfer list to consider as a viable option.

Physically imposing and fearless in front of goal, Scamacca has all the skills needed to become a top-quality striker in the future, and for Arsenal, the Italian international could have been a major upgrade on Lacazette.

Arsenal can’t dwell on Scamacca contract update for too long

With Scamacca likely to stay in Sassuolo this summer barring an incredible bid, Arsenal can’t be dwelling on this contract update for too long if Arteta and company are to make real strides in the summer transfer window to bring in a new starting striker.

After all, Arsenal have more options available, such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jonathan David and Alexander Isak. And whilst Scamacca would have been an excellent signing, the striker signing a new contract with Sassuolo would seemingly put him out of the race for the Gunners.
