Arsenal and Newcastle transfer target Clement Grenier was hit in the pocket for a lack of punctuality.
Talented Frenchman Clement Grenier is hoping for a chance of a lifetime at the World Cup, but has had some apologising to do.
The Lyon playmaker was not expected to be an automatic starter for Didier Deschamps side, and may have put his prospects back further after a poor display of personal timekeeping.
Grenier, linked with a transfer to Arsenal by Sky Sports last summer and a player keenly admired by Arsene Wenger, has had to apologise after being late to a training session.
He told L’Equipe: “I’m was late for Clairefontaine … This is not the kind of thing I like, I took my train too late to Lyon. It is not usual for me. I apologised to the coach and I paid a fine.”
Grenier, 23, has five international caps to date and has also been linked with Newcastle United.
He netted seven goals and provided eight assists for Lyon last season across all competitions.
