Arsenal wanted Tammy Abraham but the door is surely closed on a deal even with the Roma striker keen on a return to England.
Everybody knew what the Gunners wanted in the summer transfer window – they simply had to find a new striker.
Alexandre Lacazette moved on and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was long gone, leaving Arsenal with a desperate need for a new goalscorer.
Arsenal did end up finding their man as Gabriel Jesus arrived from Manchester City but others were under consideration – such as Tammy Abraham.

Arsenal wanted Tammy Abraham
The Daily Star reported in April that Arsenal had picked out Abraham as a player who could lead the attack for Mikel Arteta moving forward.
Abraham may have come through the Chelsea ranks but he actually claims to have grown up supporting the Gunners.
The Athletic claim that Abraham was actually desperate to join Arsenal in 2021 and was telling Chelsea teammates of that desire.
Instead, Arsenal sat back and allowed Roma to swoop in with a deal, taking Abraham to the Italian capital.
Abraham smashed 27 goals in all competitions last season and now appears to be England’s main competition for Harry Kane.
The 24-year-old is on a path to stardom and Corriere dello Sport in Italy claim that Abraham’s desire is to return to England.
Roma would stand to make a huge profit, especially if Chelsea activate the €80million (£72million) buy-back clause in Abraham’s deal.
So what about Arsenal?
You would imagine that Abraham would still love to pull on the famous red and white shirt, especially as it would facilitate a return to London.
Yet the road to Arsenal now appears to be blocked given the signing of Gabriel Jesus.
The Brazilian has been simply sensational in Arsenal’s attack and appears to be absolutely perfect for Mikel Arteta’s style of play.
Signing Abraham now just doesn’t make any sense for Arsenal; the fee would be huge, especially as competition for Gabriel Jesus.
Seeing players join their boyhood clubs is always great, but it’s starting to feel like the timing will just never be right for Abraham and Arsenal.
