Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu is back in contention for Mikel Arteta’s side having returned to training at London Colney.
Tomiyasu hasn’t appeared for Arsenal since the 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-finals back on January 20th.
At the time, Mikel Arteta indicated that Tomiyasu would be ‘out for a couple of weeks’ as he nursed a calf injury.
We’re almost a month on now and Tomiyasu hasn’t returned to the Arsenal side, leaving Arteta’s side slightly exposed at right back.
Fans have been hoping to see Tomiyasu return to action soon, and their prayers have been answered by a video released this morning.
Arsenal have shown footage of Tomiyasu returning to training, taking part in running drills at London Colney.
This is great news for Arsenal, though Tomiyasu still needs to do more ball work and fully reintegrate with the rest of the squad.
That means Tomiyasu may still not be able to start in Arsenal’s upcoming home game against Brentford this weekend.
Tomiyasu may be able to return to the bench though, bolstering Arteta’s options even he isn’t back to full fitness just yet.
The Japanese defender has become a fan favourite at Arsenal since joining from Bologna on deadline day in August.
A committed right back who has shown to be a superb defender and also support the attack going forward, Tomiyasu has proven to be a bargain at just £15.5million.
Whenever Tomiyasu is back fully fit, expect him to walk back into the team and immediately start for Arsenal again.
With Arsenal chasing the top four just as Tottenham begin to falter, Tomiyasu’s return is just the kind of boost Arteta needed.
