Arsenal claimed a 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Saturday, with defender Takehiro Tomiyasu impressing Gunners legend Ian Wright.
After Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s shocking first-half miss, Arsenal fans may have feared a frustrating day.
In the end though, Bukayo Saka put Arsenal in front before Gabriel Martinelli added a second with a fine lob.
The assist for that beautiful Martinelli goal came from Tomiyasu, who created his first Arsenal goal.
The Japanese defender has been solid at the back but we haven’t seen all that much of him going forward.
This was just the fourth game in which Tomiyasu has registered a key pass, and only the second game with more than one key pass.
Tomiyasu weighted the pass for Martinelli’s goal perfectly, showing that he is more than capable on the ball.
The deadline day signing from Bologna has quickly become a fan favourite at Arsenal, and assists like that will only make supporters love him even more.
It looks like Arsenal legend Ian Wright is a huge fan of Tomiyasu, taking to Instagram to state that the defender was ‘brilliant’ against Newcastle.
Wright took an early shine to Tomiyasu, branding him ‘fantastic’ after his Arsenal debut – and that love hasn’t dwindled.
Arsenal fans would likely echo that sentiment, and will hope to see Tomiyasu produce more assists in the future.
