Mesut Ozil has many international team-mates at Bayern Munich – and he sent them a message yesterday.
Arsenal failed and then Manchester United followed against German powerhouse Bayern Munich this season – but Real Madrid showed us all how it is done with a magnificent performance against the Bavarians at the Allianz Arena last night.
Real won 5-0 on aggregate against the reigning champions – thumping them 4-0 on the night thanks to a brace apiece from Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos – in what was a tactical master class from Carlo Ancelotti.
His side evoked the spirit of his great AC Milan side with swift counter attacks and a drilled, brutal, defence undoing the more glamorous rivals.
One keen observer was Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil. The German international had interests in both sides.
As a former Real Madrid player, albeit one who left in eventually rather acrimonious fashion last September, he was backing his old team-mates – posting this message on Twitter before the game had even finished:
But he also had a message for the Bayern players.
Writing in his native tongue he had warm words for his international colleagues – such as Mario Gotze, Toni Kroos, Philipp Lahm and Thomas Muller – with whom he will contest the World Cup in Brazil this summer.
Here is the translation for the below Tweet.
Head high mean friends of Bavaria: in the summer we attack together. #fcbrma
Maybe this time next year Ozil will be too busy to be on Twitter as Arsenal fans will be hoping he is playing in a Champions League semi-final himself.
