Speaking on the club’s weekly podcast, Arsenal’s rising star Alex Iwobi described the moment when he was left scared by a creepy incident where a Gunners fan followed him home after his side’s 2-0 Champions League win over Basel.

The Nigerian international has been a revelation for Arsene Wenger’s men since being handed his senior debut almost a year ago during the Gunners’ 3-0 League Cup defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

He has since gone on to establish himself as a first-team regular, already appearing in five of Arsenal’s seven Premier League games, and both of their Champions League outings.

Iwobi, 20, was speaking on the Arsenal Weekly Podcast, and divulged a moment when he was followed home by a fan:

“I remember the last home game we played. For 15 minutes there was one fan following me and I was getting a bit scared. I was getting close to my destination. I was thinking, I’m going to have to do a detour before I get to my destination before he ends up finding where I’m going. That was a bit mad.”

The revelation from Iwobi brings to light just how careful modern day footballers have to be, with social media becoming ever more prominent by the day and subsequently giving fans the impression that they are closer to their heroes than they actually are.

Next up for Arsenal is a home game against Swansea City in the Premier League on Saturday, where a win could take them to the top of the table, should other results go their way.
