Paul Merson warned on Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (06/03/21 at 1:25 pm) that Liverpool could soon find themselves in an ‘Arsenal situation’.

The TV pundit claimed that both Liverpool and Arsenal are ‘Rolls-Royce’ of football clubs but they have to secure Champions League football to sign the top players in the world.

Arsenal are well aware that they won’t be finishing in the top-four, but not many expected the current champions to be in such a situation where they are worried about playing on Thursday nights.

Merson warned Liverpool no matter how big they are, they will find it ‘hard’ to bring in the star players if they aren’t finishing in the top-four by the time the final ball has been kicked been this term.

“They don’t really need Thursday night football if I am honest,” said Merson. “They have to get into the top-four.

“Back to the Arsenal situation, we are talking about a great club. A Rolls-Royce of a football club but if you want to bring players in. They want to play in the Champions League, it’s as simple as that.

“And if Liverpool aren’t in the Champions League for everything they have done in the last two or three years then it’s going to be hard.

“I worry for Liverpool sometimes. I know they haven’t got the players there.”

It’s not just the players Liverpool may lose out on during the summer window, but will some of their star players look to move?

More than likely, the majority will stay put, but if a top-four finish isn’t delivered, it wouldn’t be a surprise if one leaves the net.

Either way, these final few months of the season and their Champions League run is massive for Liverpool in how their summer will pan out in the transfer market.
