Arsenal need new strikers, and Guidetti could be a perfect fit.
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini confirmed that he would be interested in signing Robin van Persie- but why don’t Arsenal turn the tables instead?
It is taken as a given that Manchester City have a bottomless pit of transfer money, but Arsenal have a decent pot stashed away themselves, courtesy of last year’s sales of Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas.
Yes Lukas Podolski is seemingly on his way, but he will not be the only striker Arsenal require, even if Robin van Persie stays at the club.
The club will discard Marouane Chamakh, Carlos Vela, and Nicolas Bendtner this summer, while Park Chu-Young may also move on.
So a striker such as young John Guidetti would be perfect. The 19-year-old is on loan at Dutch club Feyenoord and has earned rave reviews, scoring 18 times in 16 games.
Arsenal have the money to lodge a bid for the youngster and should try to sign him.
If Robin van Persie decides to leave the club, and go to City, then Arsenal should insist Guidetti is included in the deal.
City would be loathe to sell another promising youngster, Mancini has said he regrets the fact Daniel Sturridge was allowed to leave, but Guidetti says he will not be willing to spend the time sitting on the bench, and will have offers from all over Europe.
If van Persie leaves Arsenal to try his luck at Barcelona or Real Madrid, the club will secure a hefty transfer fee.
That money will need to be re-invested in the squad, and Arsenal fans would no doubt like to see their club targeting one of City’s assets, rather than the other way around, so should go for it whatever happens with their star striker.
We are not saying it will happen, but Guidetti is one of the best young strikers in Europe, and it would be remiss of Arsenal not to consider him.
What do you think the future hold for Van Persie or Guidetti?
