Arsenal should do all they can to hijack a deal from Manchester City this summer with days remaining before the window slams shut.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal completed the signing of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna with the Italian defender set to play a key role for the Gunners as the new season is underway.
HITC understands that Arsenal are closing in on their second addition of the summer with the Gunners agreeing a fee with Real Sociedad to complete the signing of Spanish midfielder Mikel Merino.
The Spaniard is set to complete his move to the Emirates Stadium with just four days left of the summer transfer window.

Arsenal should hijack Man City’s deal for Erling Haaland backup
Whilst Arsenal are set to make two key additions to their squad before the window slams shut on Friday, a new striker is one of the signings that the Gunners have yet to make.
Earlier this summer, we reported that Arsenal failed to get a deal over the line for Benjamin Sesko from German giants Red Bull Leipzig.
Sesko extended his contract at Leipzig but HITC understands that the Slovenian forward has a release clause in his contract that comes into effect in 2025.
As for the Premier League champions Manchester City, the Citizens lost Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid so a new backup for Erling Haaland is needed and one target has emerged for Pep Guardiola’s side.
According to a post on X from David Ornstein, City have considered Copenhagen’s Orri Oskarsson as a Haaland back-up but they are crucially not expected to make a move for the teenage forward this summer.
This could give Arsenal a chance to make a move for the promising Copenhagen forward with Mikel Arteta’s side in need of a centre-forward.

The 19-year-old Iceland international certainly has a lot of promise in the game and a move to Arsenal would make a lot of sense.
Oskarsson has already scored seven goals in 11 games for FC Copenhagen this season, almost half of the 15-tally he notched last term.
The 6ft 1in attacker has attracted interest from a number of sides and a transfer could be an option this summer.
“The numbers show very clearly what it is that makes Orri an extraordinary talent, which we will now take into his senior career,” sporting director Peter Christiansen told Copenhagen’s website.
He is valued at just £17 million and he could prove to be an exciting bargain for sides in the Premier League and Arsenal should consider a deal to sort out their striker problems and also pip City to a deal.
